Disney's Hollywood Studios, anciennement connu sous le nom de Disney-MGM Studios, est un parc à thème situé dans Walt Disney World Resort à Lake Buena Vista, en Floride, aux États-Unis, qui a ouvert ses portes le 1er mai 1989. D'une superficie de 546 000 m², le parc a pour thème les classiques du cinéma hollywoodien et les émissions de télévision populaires.

Histoire[]

À l'origine, le parc devait être un pavillon d'Epcot, qui devait s'appeler "Great Moments at the Movies" ("Les Grands Moments du Cinéma" en français) avec le Great Movie Ride comme attraction principale. Il aurait été situé entre les pavillons The Imagination et The Land, avant qu'il ne soit suggéré de consacrer un parc entier à la réalisation de films. Le parc fonctionnerait également comme un studio de travail avec des studios d'enregistrement et des installations de production pour les films et la télévision, ainsi qu'une nouvelle unité en Floride pour Walt Disney Animation Studios, qui, en plus de travailler sur des projets supervisés par le studio principal de Burbank, produirait trois de ses propres films, dont Mulan, Lilo et Stitch (film) et Frère des Ours. Reflétant l'activité du studio, l'icône du parc sera un château d'eau à l'ancienne, orné d'oreilles de souris, appelé Earffel Tower. Les différentes attractions du parc permettent aux visiteurs de voir de près le fonctionnement de la production cinématographique, bien qu'au début des années 2000, la production active de divertissement ait essentiellement cessé et que de nombreuses zones de production aient été absorbées par le trafic des visiteurs et les nouvelles attractions. Afin de renforcer l'image du parc et le nombre de films dont il pourra s'inspirer, Disney établit un partenariat informel avec la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). La seule affiliation de la MGM, qui appartient désormais à Sony, au parc Disney se fait par le biais de contrats qui autorisent Disney à utiliser le nom et le logo du lion de la MGM dans le marketing, et de contrats distincts qui autorisent l'utilisation de contenus spécifiques de la MGM dans une attraction appelée The Great Movie Ride. Toutefois, les droits de l'ensemble de la bibliothèque MGM antérieure à 1986 ont été achetés par Ted Turner pour créer Turner Network Television et, plus tard, Turner Classic Movies, qui fait maintenant partie de WarnerMedia. Par conséquent, la fin de l'affiliation avec MGM n'a pas affecté le contenu de The Great Movie Ride. Depuis le 7 janvier 2008, le parc a été rebaptisé "Disney's Hollywood Studios", l'annonce officielle ayant été faite le 9 août 2007 par les responsables de Disney. Avec les travaux d'expansion en cours qui ont commencé en 2015, il a été signalé que Disney a exploré de nouveaux noms pour le parc.
Le parc, ouvert à l'origine dans l'idée d'être une "expérience d'une demi-journée" à associer à d'autres nouveaux projets tels que Typhoon Lagoon et Pleasure Island, allait connaître un succès retentissant et susciter un besoin d'expansion dans les années à venir. L'initiative "Disney Decade" comprend de nombreuses propositions de terrains et d'attractions pour le parc, telles que Dick Tracy's Crime-Stoppers, Roger Rabbit's Hollywood et The Great Muppet Movie Ride, mais aucune d'entre elles ne se concrétisera, la plupart de ces projets ayant été revus à la baisse après l'ouverture difficile de Disneyland Paris. En 1994, Sunset Boulevard, la première extension majeure du parc, ouvrira avec la The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror et sera finalement rejoint par Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith en 1999. De plus, dans le cadre de la célébration 100 Years of Magic en 2001, le parc sera l'hôte principal de la célébration avec l'iconique Sorcerer's Hat qui remplacera la Earffel Tower en marketing comme icône du parc pour les 14 prochaines années. En 2015, une nouvelle expansion majeure a été annoncée qui démolirait ce qui restait des installations de production inutilisées du parc et du backlot, avec l'ouverture de Toy Story Land en 2018, Star Wars: Ga laxy's Edge en 2019 et Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway en 2020.
Le 27 octobre 2020, Walt Disney World a rouvert ses portes après avoir été temporairement fermé pendant la pandémie de COVID-19 en cours, mais Walt Disney World a annoncé que tous les divertissements seraient mis à pied (au moins jusqu'à l'été 2021), comme Citizens of Hollywood aux Disney's Hollywood Studios et Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor au Magic Kingdom, en raison d'un différend entre Actors' Equity Association et Walt Disney World.
